The Tree House Hotel is a group of about 6-8 small homes built on stilts into the canopy of the forest. It isn't far off the road, so not the wildest jungle canopy, but still plenty of wildlife to see. We were in the Sloth House.
It's pretty basic accommodation, a double bed on the first level, and two twins in the loft above. A toilet and shower, with a small cubby and mini-fridge.
And a tree grows right through the house...
And the Duhaime family was fine with sharing our tree house with a family of bats....though they had to stay outside!
Coffee was brought to us early each morning so we could sit and enjoy the sights and sounds of the jungle.
We did catch a good look at a couple of toucans, and a quick peek at a Montezuma Oropendula (not my photo..By Paulo Philippidis from San Jose California, USA (Montezuma Oropendola) [CC-BY-2.0 (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.0)], via Wikimedia Commons)
That night, we took the guided night walk, which included an up-close look at a tiny poison red frog - well a red frog with blue legs....this shows just how tiny this frog is...but his skin is toxic and the guide makes sure to wipe his hands after he lets it go...
And further along our walk, we come across a sloth, and this one is moving! In fact, hanging by its hind legs while eating leaves....a terrific sight for our first night!
A few minutes later, he climbed down and disappeared into the dark forest. we were very lucky to have been able to watch him feed.
Then it's back to the Sloth House for a good night's sleep, because the next morning - we are off to do some white water rafting! In Costa Rica!
