After Cory had been to Hawaii a few years ago, he wanted to return to do some surfing, visit a coffee plantation, and maybe a volcano too. We discovered Costa Rica - where we could do all of that plus all that wildlife that Hawaii doesn't offer.

While Costa Rica is relatively small, it has a lot to offer. And with varied terrain from sea level to over 12000 feet, it has numerous microclimates, with daytime temperatures ranging from the mid-30s Celcius, to the mid-teens. Its beaches are not as spectacular as those in the Caribbean but we've been fortunate to visit terrific beaches in Cuba and Mexico, so this isn't meant to be a beach/resort/all-inclusive type of vacation.

We have more of an adventure in mind....some white-water rafting for example though it will be on the tamer Class II & III rapids.  Some exploring as we will be renting a vehicle - and driving in Costa Rica is certainly considered an adventure.

We'll get up close and personal with monkeys and crocodiles!! and other wildlife with a visit to a wildlife refuge, a small boat tour on the crocodile-infested Rio Tarcoles, as well as 2 nights in a Tree House hotel  Plus 8 nights in 2 different homes in jungle-like surroundings.

And yes, there will be surfing and a visit to a coffee plantation, finishing off our trip with a hotel stay between the Irazu and Turrialba volcanoes. That's the plan at least, hopefully all goes well.

While internet access may be a problem in some areas - one of the homes we are staying in is not on the electricity grid, drawing solar power only - we will try to keep updating here as we go along our trip, and certainly complete this upon our return.

Follow along if you wish, maybe even if you dare...cause as that Howler Monkey screams out above

"Did You Hear? The Duhaimes Are Coming to Costa Rica!"
